We're in the midst of Vacation Bible School at church this week. I'm leading the second and third grade classes, which is interesting. Those of you who know me probably think I've lost my mind for doing this, but it's something different and it's actually kind of fun.
We have a Bible story every morning, then spend time learning and quoting verses, playing games and listening to a missionary, or global partner as we're calling them these days. Our theme this year is Arrow Island, so our puppets are Feathers, the last of the booki booki birds, Jimmy Pitfall, his father Clifton, his friend Coral, their pilot Jade and an unnamed TV announcer.
When I found out what the theme was, I thought it would be fun for the kids to say their verses in different parts of the island. So in our two rooms, we have base camp, the trail, Hideaway Cave, Thunder Mountain and the Mystery Ruins. One of the other teachers told me this morning that one of the girls she brings loves going to the different places for verse time. I was hoping the kids would like that. One of the other teachers in my room doesn't seem to be as impressed, but I'm OK with that.
The week ends on Friday when we have a carnival for the kids and their families. I can't believe the week is almost over.
