Some friends and I were talking today about reading. We all love to read and usually have two to three books going at one time. I usually have different genres to match whatever mood I'm in - mystery, science fiction, drama, romance - whatever.
The problem comes, we all agreed, when we travel. Of course, you take the primary book you're reading. But you have to have spares, you know. What would you do if you finish that particular book? Without backup, you'd be sunk! Or if you're not in the mood for a mystery, say. Without a spare, you'd be in big trouble.
I usually have at least one book with me and a couple more in my suitcase. If they're big books, I can't take as much other stuff or I'd have to pay extra for my luggage.
Well, you may be saying to yourself, get an e-reader. That will solve your book travel problems. That is true, to a certain extent. But what happens if the battery runs out? What if the pilot tells the passengers to turn off all electronic equipment? What if it simply dies? You don't have to worry about those questions when you have an actual paper book in your hands.
Both formats are good. Both have their places. And both are in my library. My Kindle includes many books I have in paper format. That's gives me a lot more flexibility. My Kindle also includes some fairly good-sized books, but you'd never know by looking at it. One advantage to an e-reader is that no one knows what you're reading. But then, it's easier to just show someone the cover when they ask what you're reading.
I use both. And I'm good with both. Any time I can read is a good time, no matter the book's format.
